Networking: An Important tool for Job Search

These days conditions of jobs in Pakistan and all over the world are not satisfactory. People are losing their jobs rapidly. In this situation for fresh graduate it is very difficult to search a job. These days being a talented and hardworking person is not enough. Basically job is an art which includes different techniques. Networking is one the most important and useful technique used for job search these days. But still most people do not use this powerful job search technique. Particularly for seeking job vacancies in Pakistan, networking plays an important role for people because here most of the jobs are given on referral basis.

Professional networking means getting to know people who share your career interests, job opportunities and help you in getting them. Few years ago for networking traditional ways were used but now scenario has been changed. With the introduction of social networks like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and others, it is easy to build a network.

With whom you should have a network?

Making of network is not difficult you can make it with anyone you have contact. One thing you have to keep in mind is that, everybody has not the capacity to help you in your career. However, it is quite possible that people in your network will know others who may help you in your career. Therefore, do not assume or feel like you are wasting your time in making a network with those people.
Let’s take a look that can be in your network: your family, friends, Classmates, present & past colleagues, members of your associations, people you meet at corporate parties, your neighbors, doctors, and many more. Now you must realize that you have endless possibilities for building a strong network. Through different social networks, you may invite people into your circle to share career experiences. By sharing experiences you can get different and new ideas which can help you a lot.

Useful tips before you start networking

1. Networking is a two way process, always share your skills, knowledge, experience and useful contacts with others.
2. When there is a discussion going on listen carefully to other people.
3. Give respect to your contacts because they are sharing valuable time, knowledge and experience with you. Never force or cross the boundaries.
4. Keep a record of your contacts and keep in touch with them.
5. Do not forget to thank those who help you.
